Clean install of the OS and all the applications. Once everything is up and running on the new machine think about doing the same for the old machine. Sure it will take a day to do this my way but think about the hours wasted time and again over and over because of some impossible to track down bit of cruft from the backup drive. You'll also avoid complications caused by copying from an install for Intel chips and a new M1 chip. That way you'll avoid any unforeseen problems caused by old hidden corrupted settings. My advice is to bite the bullet and just install all the software piece by piece. I think I'll just delete all the Affinity stuff on the old and reinstall on the new. I'm debating whether or not to restore into my new M1 machine using the backup drive.
